MOBILE APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
THE CURRENT MAYHEM
Mobile application development is the process by which application software is developed for small low-power handheld devices such as personal digital assistants, enterprise digital assistants or mobile phones. These applications are either pre-installed on phones during manufacture, or downloaded by customers from various mobile software distribution platforms.
Today, as the cost of phones drops steadily, many are betting on value-added services on mobiles as the next boom.
The demand for mobile applications is growing exponentially. The competition is cut throat to say the least. Currently, there are a number of mobile operating systems to choose from, with the iPhone OS X dominating the market. Other systems include Google Android, Blackberry RIM (Research in Motion) OS, Windows Mobile, and the Palm OS / Web OS.
The ever evolving technological capabilities of devices, means that we are now seeing applications which have a very real function in almost every area of business. From placing orders, to checking stock availability, raising invoices to managing customer accounts, the increasingly mobilized workforce now requires the ability to access data and communicate with centrally held systems, with all the speed and efficiency that they can in the office.
As yet, the battle for domination between the major players has no clear winner in the market as the giants jostle for position. The recent launch of Windows Mobile 7 will see the competition intensify as Microsoft’s new mobile platform will be aiming to compete with established players such as Google and Apple.
With variety of platforms launched, the survivor is the one who develops for cross-platform.
Developers are accustomed to change, and this is nothing new for them. However, mobile application development market now seems to require a large degree of crystal ball gazing. Currently there are many applications available for mobile application development in the market which the users can use.
So, what is the call for you……….. which is the best and what should be done…???
This question can be best answered by you, considering what you are comfortable with and what is your level of preparedness to go and make mobile applications for different platforms. The opportunities are there in plenty and that how you take it is in your hands. You want to eat the cake in small or large pieces depends on you, similarly the same goes for mobile application development. Opportunities are a plenty, but how you respond to the same depends on your skill set, knowledge and ultimately your attitude.
